Now let us tell you about the role:

As the Head of Plant and Maintenance, you will oversee the management and upkeep of all static and mobile plant machinery used in our facilities across our group's locations in Ireland, Holland and the UK. You will lead initiatives to ensure operational efficiency, reliability, and compliance with environmental and safety standards.
 
Key responsibilities
 

Maintenance Management:

  • Develop, implement, and oversee comprehensive maintenance procedures to ensure all plant machinery operates at peak efficiency.
  • Focus on preventative maintenance to minimize downtime and extend equipment lifespan.
  • Review PPM schedules and improve as required to decrease downtime
  • Implement new CMMS system.

Strategic Planning:

  • Collaborate with senior management to develop strategic plans for the deployment, maintenance, and enhancement of machinery and equipment.

Team Leadership:

  • Manage a team of maintenance managers, engineers, and technicians across multiple sites, recruit and build the team where required.
  • Ensure training and development of staff to meet the company's operational and safety standards.

Budget Management:

  • Prepare and manage the maintenance budget.
  • Ensure cost-effective resource allocation and spending, while aiming for the highest efficiency in maintenance operations.

Compliance and Safety:

  • Ensure all maintenance activities comply with relevant laws and regulations in both Ireland and the UK.
  •  Promote a culture of safety and environmental responsibility.

Vendor Management:

  • Negotiate with and manage relationships with equipment suppliers and external contractors to ensure high-quality services and products at competitive prices.

Performance Monitoring:

  • Implement and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess the effectiveness of maintenance activities and make adjustments as necessary.
  •  Innovation and Improvement: Stay informed on the latest industry technologies and practices to drive continuous improvement and innovation within the maintenance department.
  • Spend time at ground level as required to monitor standard of repairs and works, guide the team, have a true reflection of requirements for the business and build the team from the ground up. 
 
About You
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field would be an advantage
  • Proven experience (8+ years) in maintenance management, preferably within the waste management or a related heavy industry.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills.
  • Excellent organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in using maintenance management software.
  • Knowledge of the regulatory environment in Ireland and the UK related to machinery and waste management.
